UP PUCLprotests killing of APCLC leader, Ali Azamin.
The UP State branch of the PUCL staged a protest dharna on February 21, along
with other human rights and mass organisation to protest against the brutal
killing of APCLC leader Ali Azamin, AP.
The dharna also expressed its anger against series of fake encounters in the
Sonabhadra region of UP by the police in the name of combating Naxalism. The
dharna was joined by organisations like AIPWA, AISA. RYA, Stree Adhikaar Sangathan,
Dalit intellectual Forum, Abhiyan, AISF, Human Rights Law Network, and others.
The dharna was addressed by the PUCL State President Ravi Kiran Jain, the veteran
leader Zia-ul-Haq, Padma Singh, RD Chowdhary, Satyendra Singh, Rekha Singh,
and others. It was decided to call meetings in various District Headquarters
of UP on March 14 to highlight human rights abuse in the State and the failure
of the government to establish a State HRC. A Dhaman Virodhi Manavadhikar Manch
with Shri KK Roy, Organising Secretary UP PUCL, as the Convenor was set up.
