Appeal to Governor of Tamil Nadu for Release of Prisoner
(Kerala PUCL has written
the following letter to Mrs. Justice Faathima Beevi, Governor, Tamil Nadu)
It has been brought to our notice that Mr. Veerankutty Haji S/o. Saidalavi Haji, Ekkaparambu House, Kuzhimanna, 673641,Via Kondotty, Malappuram District Kerala, a life convict, is languishing in Central Jail Coimbatore, from 1986. Though he has appealed to the Chennai High Court against the conviction and sentence we are informed that the appeal is yet to be taken up for final hearing. Veerankutty Haji was arrested in 1986 in connection with Crime No.936 of Salem Town Police Station. Veerankutty Haji is sick and old. He is more than 60 years. He has a wife and three children. His father died in 1999. Veerankutty Haji was not granted leave to visit his family after the death of his father. His mother has petitioned to the Chief Justice of Madras High Court and a copy of the same is enclosed.
We understand that a number
of convicts have been granted remission of sentence and have been released from
jail in connection with the birth day celebration of late Shri Annadurai on
September 15. The mother of Veerankutty Haji is now 93 years. She is seriously
ill and it is her last wish to see her son before she dies. Kindly, therefore,
intervene in the matter and help the poor family of Veerankutty Haji by granting
the benefit of remission to Veerankutty Haji and ensure his early release from
jail. His present address is as follows: K Beerankutty Haji, Convict No.59951,
Block No.9, Central Prison, Coimbatore.
Awaiting your early action in the matter.
