Committee to study 'Disturbed Areas'
The Governor of Manipur
has constituted a High Power Committee to examine the feasibility of withdrawing
the "disturbed area" status from the State of Manipur or parts thereof
and the role of the security forces.
The Committee comprises the following:
Dr. L.Chandramani Singh, Deputy Chief Minister, Manipur, Chairperson;
Prof. Gangmumei Kamei, Minister/Forest and Environment, Law and LA, & Higher
Education, Member; Sri A. Biren Singh, MOS(Home/Agri), Manipur, Member; . Col.
(Rtd.) H. Bhuban Singh, MLA, Member; Sri N. Nimai Singh, MLA, Member; Sri N.
Kotishwar Singh, Advocate, Member; Sri Rakesh, Chief Secretary, Government of
Manipur, Member; Sri L. Ibomcha Singh, Secretary (Law), Government of Manipur,
Member; and Sri D.S. Poonia, Principal Secretary (Home), Government of Manipur,
Member.
The Committee is authorized co-opt other members or invite others as special
invitees as and when it considers it necessary.
The Committee was set up on December 12 and was to submit its report within
thirty days. However, till Dec 17 the Committee had met only once.
