PUCL Bulletin,
December 2001
Sudesh Vaid
The PUCL expresses its deep sense of loss at the demise of Dr. Sudesh
Vaid of the PUDR on November 15, 2001.
Sudesh was one of the founders of the PUDR along with Gobind Mukhoti when
it came into existence. She was active, committed, and worked ceaselessly
in the defence of civil liberties and human rights. It will be difficult
to visualize the Democratic rights movement in Delhi without her. - Y.P.
Chhibbar, General Secretary
Sudesh Vaid,
A Personal Note
I had known Desihyaan, as she was affectionately called, for the past
thirty-nine years. I saw her growing from a young, rebellious, woman into
a mature, committed, firebrand activist in the cause of Democratic rights
and Civil Liberties.
I saw her studying the principles of Political Economy assiduously after
completing her Ph. D. in the area of gender discrimination. Her inexhaustible
energy, innovative methods made her a unique activist. She had the rare
distinction of practicing what she had learnt. She did not preach, but
had the authority of her honesty of purpose.
I wish there were more workers like her in the field of the movement for
rights and liberties - Y.P
