Dr. Y.P. Chhibbar, General Secretary, PUCL has issued the following statement:
Twenty-First PUCL 'Journalism for Human Rights' Award goes to RANI GEORGE
of Malayala Manorama.
"The Jury of the Twenty-First PUCL 'Journalism for Human Rights'
Award has named Ms. Rani George of Kollam, Kerala as the winner for the
award for year 2001.
"Ms. Rani George is a Sub-Editor with Malayala Manorama. She will
receive Rs. 20,000/-, a Plaque, and a Citation.
"The Jury has also named Shri Reji Joseph of Kottayam to receive
a Special Mention. He will receive Rs. 5000/- and a Special Mention. Reji
Joseph works with Rashtra Deepika.
"The function will be held at Mangalore on March 23, 2002. The Award
will be presented by (Justice) S. M. Daud (Rtd.) of Bombay High Court.
"In the same function (Justice) Zakeria Yacoob of South Africa will
deliver the Twenty-Second JP Memorial Lecture."
