Coming Elections in India : Democracy Vs. Communal Fascism - -Role of
Intellectuals, Media Persons, Human Rights organizations & other Movements
The coming elections in India in the states as well as to the Lok
Sabha- are very crucial for future of democracy in India. The policies
pursued by the present BJP-led Coalition, and the programmes of the Sangh
Parivar, are highly detrimental to the continuance of secular democracy.
Destruction of secular democracy in India means the destruction of its
unity and integrity. But the BJP and the rest of the Sangh Parivar are
not daunted by this frightening prospect. While there is no effort to
solve the basic problems of the people like poverty, unemployment, health,
justice delivery, the powers of the police and the paramilitary forces
are being increased on the pretext of fighting ‘terrorism’.
Political immorality and corruption is the order of the day. On top of
it, there are consistent efforts to convert judiciary into the “mouth-piece”
of the government and a significant section of the media has already been
turned into a willing tool of the ‘official line’, while the
dissenting one is ruthlessly sidelined and suppressed.
Keeping in view the above context, Indian Radical Humanist Association,
PUCL, Lokayan, Forum For Democracy and Cmmunal Amity, Vasudev Kutambkam,
Champa-The Amiya & B.G.Rao Foundation, Indian Social Institute, Nishant
Natya Manch, NAPM and Citizens For Democracy are organizing a seminar
