Obituary: S P Sathe

Dr Satya Rajan Purushottam Sathe, a former President of the Maharashtra PUCL and a former Vice-President of the National PUCL, breathed his last on March 10, 2006 after a brief illness in Pune

Professor SP Sathe was a distinguished legal luminary and an academic star in the judicial Universe of the country. He held various positions in Universities and Law institutes of repute. He headed the ILS Law College Pune and the Institute of Advance Legal Studies, Pune for long periods.

He authored a number of hooks and contributed more than 100 articles to various Indian and foreign journals and periodicals of repute. He also wrote in Marathi and was one of the authors of the Marathi Vishwa Kosh published by the government of Maharashtra.

Known for his humility, Professor Sathe endeared himself to his colleagues and students alike. His commitment to Rights and Liberties of the people was deep and abiding. His demise has left a void in the Human Rights movement of the country, which will be difficult to fill up. Y P Chhibbar, General Secretary
