The following text reveals some facts about the minor child.

A Pakistani Hindu Minor in Indian Custody

We appeal to the governments of Pakistan and India, the philanthropist organizations and anyone bearing the capacity to play an effective role in the release and repatriation of a Pakistani Hindu Minor Danish Kumar (Dinesh Lal as per The Tribune news) s/o Chaman Lal who languishing in the Indian custody since 27th June 2003.

The desperate parents approached SHARP to help them get their child back. SHARP has taken the case on a humanitarian basis and is striving in its capacity to relief the beleaguered family.

SHARP has also filed an application on 15th July 2003 to the Indian High
Commission for Pakistan requesting the effective and immediate measures to resolve this issue which has created great concerns in the family of the child who belongs to a minority group in Pakistan while to majority group in India. SHARP urges all the humanitarian bodies on the Indian soil to come forward and help us in soothing the aching eyes of a mother and take pride in serving the humanity.According to the information provided by his parents who approached SHARP office on July 14 2003 Danish Kumar fled his home fearing rage of his parents due to failure in the SSc Annual Examination of Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Islamabad 2003 as per gazette result of the said board announced on 25th June 2003.

Parents of the child were on a visit to their native village Umarkot District Mirpurkhas (Sind) when the child escaped from his home on 26th June 2003. This was duly reported in Kohsar Police Station Islamabad on 27th June 2003 while the disappearance was notified in daily newspaper ‘Jang’ on 1st July 2003.

This was later on known through electronic edition of The Tribune (India) of 29th June 2003 that the child was in the custody of Indian Boarder Security Forces (BSF) while he was trying to enter India through gate 101 at Wagah border. He was handed over to Gharinda Police station by the BSF for not having the legal documents. As per report of ‘The Tribune’ Police did not recover anything from the child. The police has registered a case at Gharinda police. According to SHARP sources the child is still on remand and might be brought to court on 11th August 2003 for further proceedings.

SHARP is a non-governmental organization working to protect and promote human rights and extending its assistance to the needy people. SHARP tries its level best to sooth the human rights victims as well as the downtrodden faction of the society. SHARP is actively involved in addressing the issues related to Refugees, Prisoners, Minorities, Violence against Women, Health and Human Trafficking. Though the agony faced by the family in concern is not due to any violation of the human rights but taking stock of the anxiety and worry that a parent can take on the disappearance of a child SHARP requests those capable of making a difference for helping us in bringing back a son to his mother.
