Dr. Y.P. Chhibbar, General Secretary of the PUCL has issued the following statement:

Attempt on Geelani’s life reprehensible

“The attempt on the life of SAR Geelani on the night of February 8 outside the house of his lawyer, Nandita Haksar, in condemnable is strongest possible words. He is reported to have gone there to meet Ms. Haksar in connection with the ongoing case in the Supreme Court as a sequel of appeal by the prosecution against his acquittal by the High Court.
“Clearly there are people in this country who want to take the extra judicial route to suit their whims.

There are people who want special treatment for some outside the scope of law; there are people who would like to inflict punishment if in the eyes of law a person is not guilty.
