Socialist Front condemns the arrest of B.D. Sharma

Surendra Mohan, Ex M.P. and National Convener of the Socialist Front has condemned the arrest of Dr. B.D. Sharma, President of Bharat Jan Andolan, Prof. Manoranjan Mohanty of the Delhi University, Dr Rakesh Rafique of Yuva Bharat, Dr. A.K. Arun of Rashtra Nirman Abhiyan and other leaders who were protesting against the occupation of Iraq by the USA and her allies, on the first anniversary of the invasion on Iraq. Such protests had taken place worldwide, he pointed out that there was nothing unlawful about the one led by Dr. Sharma.

In a statement issued here today, Mr. Surendra Mohan said that the arrests exposed the proximity of the NDA Government with the aggressors, even after parliament had adopted a resolution against their invasion of Iraq last year. “After the discrimination by the US Government in favour of Pakistan and against India, against which our External Minister has also expressed displeasure, such proximity is totally uncalled for, even though it was illusory even before this development,” the statement added. -- 22. 3. 2004
