Obituary
Annada
Sankar Ray
Annada Sankar Ray, one of the founder members of the PUCL, passed away
on October 28, 2002 at the age of 99.
The West Bengal PUCL was inaugurated by Shri V M Tarkunde in September
1981 with Shri Roy as its President and Shri Gaur Kishore Ghose, Shri
Naresh Ganguly and Shri Deepak Deb as its vice presidents. Shri Annada
Sankar Ray, a former ICS officer, who was firmly committed to secular
values and human rights was a well-known author in Bengali and Oriya.
For quite sometime he was not keeping good health but he always responded
to letter from the national office. His condition had deteriorated on
October 8 and he was admitted to the hospital.
The human rights movement in West Bengal and the PUCL has suffered a great
loss in his death.
Kaloji
Narayan
Kaloji Narayan has passed away on November 13. He was admitted to the
Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences sometime ago due to a fracture to
his ankle. He developed some cardiac problem and expired early in the
forenoon.
Kaloji was for long a member of the PUCL. He also presided over the JP
Memorial Lecture function twice. A simple person, a revolutionary poet,
and committed to civil liberties he was widely respected for his selfless
work.
The PUCL has lost a source of inspirations in his death.
