Attack
on D'Sa
Attempt
on the life of P.B. D'Sa, Mangalore condemned
On 8-7-02 at Mangalore in Dakshina Kannada, Sri P.B. D'Sa, President of
PUCL was attacked with lethal weapons with a intention to murder by criminals.
PUCL Karnataka strongly condemns this cowardly and murderous attack. This
sudden attack had the intention to eliminate Mr. D'Sa, who was in the
forefront of the civil liberties movement. We strongly believe this is
a desperate attempt to eliminate the civil liberties movement in Dakshina
Kannada. Recently a student belonging to a progressive students union
was murdered and to this day the police has not caught the attackers.
In the district the cult of violence is raising its head and it will attempt
to silence all the democratic and civil liberties voices. In this context
we call upon all the democratic and progressive forces to raise their
voice to protest this cowardly and murderous attack.
We urge the Government
to arrest the accused and punish the conspirators.
-- Dr. V. Laxminarayana,
General Secretary, Karnataka PUCL, Mysore 9-07-02
